6 Ways AI tools like ChatGPT are changing consumer beauty routines

AI tools are changing every industry, and that includes the beauty industry too. I’ve already written about how the beauty industry is using AI, but what about consumer beauty routines?

Here’s how AI is changing consumer beauty routines. It’s a must-know if you’re targeting beauty consumers.

Suggesting foundation shades from other brands

If you know your foundation shade in one well-known brand, you can ask ChatGPT to suggest alternative shades from other brands. This isn’t new, as foundation databases have existed for a long time now but it’s a lot more automated this way. You can also use the hex code of your skin to ask for recommendations. Some people have reported very mixed results with this.

Here’s my foundation shade matches below:

Building a skincare routine from scratch

Ask ChatGPT to suggest a skincare routine and products for your specific requirements and it’ll build one for you. Now I haven’t tried this, and I don’t know that I’d trust it honestly, but skincare influencer Hyram has (with mixed results).

Colour analysis and creating a makeup routine based on your skin tone

This involves finding the hex code (designers and marketers will get this) for your skin, and asking an AI to make colour recommendations that will work for your skin tone. This massively depends on how accurately you match your skin, and it’s worth remembering that one part of your face could well be a different shade to another part, and lighting will make a huge difference too.

Recreating a discontinued fragrance or suggesting alternatives

If your favourite fragrance has been discontinued, you can get the exact notes and ingredients from ChatGPT then have a perfumer recreate it for you either locally or if you plan to head to Paris (a perfume making hotspot).

Using an image generator for makeup inspo and details of how to recreate it

People are using tools like Bing’s image generator to give inspiration for specific trending makeup looks, along with details of how to create it. As in product placement and recommendations based on specific prompts.

Understanding what to ask for at the hairdressers

Prompt an AI tool to act as a master hairdresser to give you specific suggestions and ideas for your hair styling/cut/colour for your next salon visit. It can also educate consumers on the right terms to use to get the results they’re looking for.
